Masked men kicked in the door to an apartment on Houston’s (TX) east side this week and yelled “police” as they stormed the house and shot a man inside the residence, leaving him in critical condition.
They weren’t police.
Cops, here’s the drill:
Forget about no-knock warrants. Knock on the door, announce yourselves and wait for the occupant to come open the door or otherwise acknowledge your presence.
Residents, here’s the drill:
If anyone just kicks your door in unannounced and you’re not a wanted man, then whether or not they yell “police,” you have only seconds to win or die.
