A gun was fired inside the Pearl, MS Bass Pro Shops by an employee this week. The employee (apparently a greeter) was checking to see if a customer’s .380 pistol was loaded before it was taken for service. It was.
The employee was not struck but injured a hand while handling the gun. It is not known where the bullet landed (a “safety tube” was used), but there were no reports of additional injuries.
The Pearl Police Department was called to the scene. We don’t know why. We also don’t know why the gun went off, but that hardly ever happens without someone pulling the trigger. Don’t check to see if a firearm is loaded by pulling the trigger.
