Embattled former US House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) was no friend to gun owners despite an NRA “A” rating. Hastert has now been indicted on one count each of structuring currency transactions to evade currency transaction reports and making a false statement to the FBI about $3.5 million he agreed and attempted to pay to an undisclosed subject to “cover up past misconduct,” i.e., sexual abuse of then-minor male student(s) at a Yorkville, IL school where Hastert was a teacher and coach.

While Speaker in the 90’s, Hastert supported favored raising the minimum age for owning a handgun to 21 and requiring “universal” background checks (and registration).

Why am I not surprised at this new revelation of his character? Conspiracy theorists opine that the timing of this case is intended to divert attention from Hillary’s past misconduct while she’s running for president.
