A Ninth U.S. Circuit Court panel has issued a stay to the U.S. District Court ruling overturning California’s unconstitutional rifle ban. Senior Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Silverman, Circuit Judge Jacqueline H. Nguyen and Circuit Judge Ryan D. Nelson wrote that the stay will remain in place pending the outcome of another case challenging the ban. The 9th Circuit panel said parties will file a status update within 14 days of a decision in the other case, Rupp v. Bonta.
An Illinois firearms instructor is facing a felony forgery charge for allegedly signing off on training certificates for classes that failed to meet the state’s licensing requirements, and another charge for providing a false certification. Hundreds of her former students now face possible revocation of their concealed carry licenses.
Cambridge, MA, Police Lt. Thomas Ahern has filed a civil suit in federal court in Boston against Sig Sauer and the city of Cambridge over a SIG P320 handgun that reportedly fires on its own without the trigger being pulled.

About those gun laws
The number of people stopped from buying guns through the U.S. background check system hit an all-time high of more than 300,000 last year amid a surge of firearm sales. FBI numbers provided to The Associated Press show the background checks blocked nearly twice as many gun sales in 2020 as in the year before. About 42% of those denials were because the would-be buyers had felony convictions on their records.
No word on any related arrests or prosecutions.

Jackson, MS is apparently experiencing a failure of its 911 system, with numerous calls unanswered. The mayor says it’s a technical problem rather than a human one. Either way, you’re on your own. Buy fire extinguishers, medical supplies and guns.
Meanwhile in Fort Worth, TX, a “stressed” stressed 911 dispatcher received a call reporting that the caller’s estranged husband was on his way to her apartment in west Fort Worth to harm her. The dispatcher didn’t send an officer because the suspect wasn’t actually on the scene yet. 45 minutes later, the caller, her 17-year-old son, and the husband were fatally shot in a double-murder and suicide. This is not the only 911 problem reported from Fort Worth.
