- A panel of the US Ninth Circus Court of Appeals has ruled that some classes of felons may not be debarred the possession of firearms because that violates the Second Amendment. But the dissenting arguments are compelling if you think the Bruen case correctly barred Americans who aren’t “law abiding” from having guns. Petition for en banc review in 3…2…1…
- The Ninth Circus also upheld California’s law requiring that state’s Department of Justice to provide firearm purchasers’ and CCW applicants’ information to research institutions.
- A Tennessee appeals court has ruled against wildlife agents who planted cameras on private land without permission, a warrant, or probable cause.

- Former president Donald Trump will address the annual NRA meeting in Dallas this weekend even though he cannot legally buy a gun. Mr. Trump has been charged with 88 felony counts in four separate indictments. The federal Gun Control Act at 18 U.S.C. § 922(n) makes it unlawful for any person under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to ship, transport, or receive firearms or ammunition. Guns will not be permitted at the NRA Leadership Forum where Trump will speak.
Enemies & Liars
The Only Ones
- Department of Baldwin: All live weapon training for the Army’s Special Forces units, and most supporting groups, was shut down for a safety stand-down after a 7th Infantry Division soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state was accidentally shot and injured on April 25 by another soldier with an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) light machine gun, during a force-on-force training exercise when live ammunition was accidentally mixed in with blanks. The injured soldier will not receive a Purple Heart, since the incident didn’t involve hostiles. May I suggest a Purple Patootie?
- LTC Frank Ross Talbert, 40, with U.S. Army Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) assigned to Fort Campbell, is facing a 21-count federal criminal indictment related to evidence that Talbert unlawfully imported firearms parts from Russia and other countries, unlawfully dealt in firearms without a FFL, and committed multiple firearms law violations related to the possession of machineguns.
- Dozens of state-owned weapons, from handheld pistols to assault rifles, used by Texas law enforcement officers have gone missing or been stolen since 2018. In many instances, supervising officials found negligence on the part of officers the weapons were assigned to.
“I am certain nobody there is armed to be able to stop me” – Former US Marine Joshua Cobb, 23, is facing federal charges after repeatedly discussing his plans – before he joined the USMC – for a racially motivated mass shooting targeting white people.

- A 13-year-old girl was shot in Chicago last week just before school. Undoubtedly that will be counted by the Left as an incident of “gun violence” (sic) involving a child, illustrating the “need” for more gun control. But that’s what happens when the “child” is attempting to carjack someone.
- The defenders here were apparently unarmed. If the suspect had actually attacked, then what would they have done?
- The Armed Citizen:
Not a DGU
- A random knife attack took place on Times Square (NYC) last Saturday. A “disabled person,” sitting in a wheel chair on a sidewalk suddenly jumped-up and stabbed a female tourist with a long knife, then sat back down in the same place, as if nothing had happened.
Wait. Isn’t Times Square one of those “gun free” zones? No wonder.

- Revolver chambered for 3.5″ 12 gauge shells. You read that right.
- Yes, you can get a 4 ounce pistol less than 4″ long. But I don’t recommend it for defensive purposes.
- A Better Woobie: SnugPak Jungle Blanket. You woobie cold without it.
- We have a report that the Heritage Manufacturing Range Side lever action “rifles” that we announced last week are all actually .410 bore shotguns.
- Escort/Hatsan have a new semiauto bullpup shotgun called the Escort Bulltac SA, not to be confused with the very similar Bulltac pump action model. It is available in 3-inch 12-gauge, 20-gauge, or 410 bore, with a 5+1 tubular magazine.
- Federal’s new HammerDown Rimfire .22 LR load uses a specially modified copper-plated hollow point bullet designed to function flawlessly in all lever guns and modern sporting rifles, including those with tubular magazines. The new bullet’s hollowpoint design offers excellent expansion at hunting ranges between 25 to 100 yards, and the load is made up in nickel-plated cases. (We note that some of the centerfire handgun HammerDown loads are “currently unavailable.”)
- FightLite® Industries, a division of ARES Defense Systems® Inc. in Melbourne, Florida, has the new multi-caliber, HERRING® Model 2024 – Modern Lever Action Rifles and Pistols. These use a lot of AR-spec parts and can be similarly configured in many ways by selecting from the vast world of AR parts and accessories.
- Heritage Mfg. has Model 92 lever action rifles in .357 Mag., .44 Mag. and .45 Colt, with several furniture and finish options.
- The Hammerli Forge H1 is a 1911-style .22 pistol. It seems to be a very nice gun for just $400 MSRP. It is manufactured by Umarex, imported by Hammerli Arms, and distributed with the help of Walther Arms.
- Rat-a-tat-tat: About 4,000 machine guns that were previously incorrectly classified as “dealer samples” are now fully transferable to private owners. These firearms were legally imported before 1986, specifically for police agencies but were misclassified by the ATF. Now, the ATF has recognized the mistake and is correcting it with help from the National Firearms Act Trade and Collectors Association. This batch of guns will be available to the public, including desirable pre-1986 H&K models. I don’t know where to buy them, but if you find out let us know.
What I just read.
This book contains some interesting info and theories, but also a LOT of unsubstantiated assumptions. Using an unproven theory to make the point that another theory is flawed is hardly progress. I recommend that you take it with more than a grain of salt.
There is no presumption of innocence when an indictment alone makes one ineligible to buy a firearm.
