The Justice Department reported (.pdf) in 2019 that among prisoners who possessed a gun during their offense, 90% did not obtain it from a retail source. Of those possessors, 0.8% obtained the gun at a gun show. About 1.3% of prisoners obtained a gun from a retail source AND USED IT during their offense.
Study: guns were not used in one-third of all mass murders, and those non-firearm attacks resulted in significantly more casualties per event.

NATO ammo
NATO has recently finalized the standardization process of the FN-designed 5.7x28mm caliber by approving the standardization agreement (STANAG) 4509.
The 5.7x28mm caliber is now integrated into the Multi-Caliber Manual Of Proof and Inspection (AEP-97) and joins the standardized NATO small-caliber ammunition portfolio, along with the 9x19mm NATO, the 5.56x45mm NATO, the 7.62x51mm NATO, and the 12.7x99mm NATO (.50 BMG).

Bad Brownells
This week I received a surprising email from Brownells, the gunsmithing supply company. It included an advertisement for an AR-style rifle with a name that clearly alludes to a vulgar expletive sexual term that is never permitted in polite company, and the email subject line continued that allusion. I thought Brownells was a reputable company, but now I question that reputation.

S&W’s reported financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2021, ended January 31, 2021, showed all-time quarterly records including net sales of $257.6 million, an increase of 102.2% over the same quarter the previous year. So yes, they are making guns – over 1.8 million in the first three quarters.

Exempts law enforcement officers currently employed with a law enforcement agency of a municipality, county or state from CCW license application or renewal fees. While the CCW license statute specifically exempts LEOs from the requirements of that law, this bill goes on to authorize a “special” LEO CCW license, which specifically allows cops to carry in places that regular folks can’t. Which they can already do anyway without the CCW license. Go figure.
