The Second Amendment

It’s not about sport. It’s undeniably about prohibiting the government from encroaching on the rights of private civilians to possess WEAPONS OF WAR.

“But nobody’s trying to take your guns away.”

Oh really?

Ukraine

The Washington Times reports that Maryan Zablotskyy, who’s a part of Ukraine’s ruling “Servant of the People Party,” wants a Second Amendment for Ukraine. They might as well take ours, since we don’t seem to be using it.

BUT, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense ordered the Ukrainian Territorial Defense to turn in arms for “storage” purposes this week, while the war is not yet won. It looks like Ukrainians will have to defeat Russia and Ukraine. Better keep your guns.

SCOTUS and Gun Free Zones

FWIW, I have always opined that Scalia’s so-called “sensitive places” dicta is false and cut from whole cloth. I have been unable to find that concept in the U.S. Constitution.

Litigation

In a unanimous decision, the Washington State Supreme Court has ruled plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the City of Edmonds for violating the state’s firearms preemption law have standing to bring the action, and upheld the preemption law. Writing for the Court, Chief Justice Steven C. González stated, “We hold that the plaintiffs have standing and that this ordinance is preempted by RCW 9.41.290. We affirm the Court of Appeals and remand to the trial court for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.” The case is Bass v. City of Edmonds.

Attorneys filed a lawsuit against San Jose, CA, claiming the city’s new gun owner ordinance violates its residents’ Second Amendment rights. Attorneys representing the Firearms Policy Coalition filed the complaint, Glass vs. City of San Jose, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California this week. The challenged ordinance requires gun owners to pay a yearly fee and carry liability insurance. We note that the Second Amendment does not say, “The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed except for government restrictions, permission slips, fees and insurance requirements.”

ATF

The backlash against President Biden’s shakeup of ATF leadership is growing. Also, Arizona prosecutor Gary Restaino will be the new acting director.

The president of the Major County Sheriffs of America, Seminole County (FL) Sheriff Dennis Lemma, sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee leaders to express his association’s support of Steve Dettelbach to lead the ATF. The MCSA represents 110 of the largest elected sheriffs’ offices in the nation. I guess we know where they stand.

Liar-in-Chief

President Biden has been repeating his lie that civilians weren’t allowed to have cannons at the time the Second Amendment was adopted. They were, and still are.

Joe Biden was also filmed shaking hands this week with a dangerous felon who lied to authorities about carrying an illegal firearm and who tried to murder Kyle Rittenhouse. Where was the Secret Service when this violent felon got close enough to touch the president?

Studies

Not a real thing –

You’ve probably seen the recent headlines from the left saying that researchers from the University of Michigan analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and published their results in a letter through the New England Journal of Medicine, allegedly finding that guns are now the leading cause (sic) of death for children and adolescents. Try subtracting the age 18-and-over bunch of adults (legal to buy guns) from that group and see what happens.

Modern journalism statement

Even the virulently anti-gun Centers for Disease Control, which thinks inanimate objects are a disease, admits that Americans use their guns defensively between 500,000 and 3,000,000 times each year.

A Good Sheriff

“If someone’s breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. So, whoever that was, you’re not in trouble, come see us. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday. If you take that, you’ll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you’ll save the taxpayers money.” – Santa Rosa County (FL) Sheriff Bob Johnson

Not a DGU

Jackson home invasion. This is why a gun outranks 911.

Mississippi Crime

More than 700 individuals in north Mississippi were arrested during a month-long effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in March to reduce violent crime.

This was reported from Memphis. I haven’t seen it in any Mississippi news media. Instead, the headline today (Thursday) on the local/state newspaper site was about some queer British couple getting “married” in Antarctica.

The Only Ones

An unidentified Taylor, Michigan, auxiliary police officer (un-sworn, but required to have a concealed pistol license) shot a volunteer role player with his real gun during an auxiliary police training exercise at a park last weekend.

Three Piqua, Ohio, police officers were hospitalized and later treated and released after Officer Adam Coe, a seven-year veteran of the Piqua Police Department, negligently fired a pistol inside the police department building while he and other officers were in the process of cleaning their weapons after range training. Piqua police have opened an investigation to determine how the incident happened. I know how. We all know.

Attaboy

18-year-old Noble Rasmussen, a graduating senior at Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska, has been accepted to all five U.S. military academies — the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy and the Air Force Academy. Already a pilot, Rasmussen chose the Air Force Academy.

FBI Ammo

Hornady has been awarded an FBI Fixed Price Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity agreement for its 9mm+P Luger 135 gr. Critical Duty ammunition for FBI use in its full size service pistols.

Army Guns

Naturally somebody’s already claiming the Army picked the wrong gun/cartridge.

Boondocks FTA

We previously reported the imminent closing of Boondocks Firearms Training Academy at Raymond, MS, but now have learned that apparently they did find a new owner and remain open for business, with some new offerings.

North American Arms

North American Arms is now an employee-owned company. Owner/president Sandy Chisholm has sold the company to an Employee Stock Ownership Trust, which will annually distribute equity ownership pieces of the company to the employees of NAA, at no cost to the employees. Mike Griffin is now President and CEO. Chisholm will remain active on the boards of NAA and of the two industry associations, NSSF and SAAMI.

Recalls

Ruger is advising owners of its SR22 pistols (pdf document) that a small number of the guns may have shipped with their right and left frame inserts improperly secured together. In rare circumstances, the condition presents the possibility that certain internal safety mechanisms will be rendered ineffective. If that occurs the pistol could potentially discharge upon decocking.

We hear that ammo prices are going to rise again. Ukraine.

Walther’s new PDP F-Series pistol is built specifically for female shooters. Accounting for precise structural differences, Walther has completely reengineered the ergonomics of the grip to be designed for the exact biomechanics of women’s hands. Featuring a new patented operating system with a two-piece striker resulting in a 20% reduction in required slide racking force, along with all the performance duty features of the PDP, the F-Series pistol is a mid-sized frame handgun that offers high ammo capacity with a smaller grip, shorter trigger, and excellent ergonomics.

Kel-Tec’s new P15 9mm pistol is a striker-fired, polymer pistol that weighs only 14oz and boasts a 15+1 capacity right out of the box. It’s the lightest, thinnest double-stack 9mm handgun on the market. $425.

A bit thicker and heavier than the Kel-Tec, and with lower capacity, is the Shadow Systems CR920.
