Both the U.S. House and Senate passed bipartisan amendments to H.R. 4366 to repeal the Veteran Gun Ban, but anti-gun extremists are plotting to remove that amendment as Congress negotiates the final passage of the bill. The provision in question lists honorable veterans as prohibited persons simply because they appointed a fiduciary to handle their veteran’s benefits for them.
Please tell your federal elected officials to OPPOSE any Veterans Administration (VA) funding bill that doesn’t contain this crucial provision.
That includes any “clean” continuing resolution (which would continue to fund the VA without repealing the gun ban).

NRA on trial. Major developments. Bombshell audio.
FINALLY! Disgraced NRA EVP Wayne LaPierre announced his resignation from the civil rights organization, effective January 31 – about 20 years too late. Presumably after that (and after the ongoing civil corruption trial), the NRA will no longer fund the massive legal costs of covering up his malfeasance. The NRA claims that LaPierre will receive no NRA payments of any type after Jan. 31. This is known as closing the barn door…
Also as rumored, co-defendant Josh Powell, former Executive Director of Operations and Chief of Staff to LaPierre, has cut a deal with the NY attorney general in which he will reportedly admit guilt, pay $100,000 in restitution to an NRA trust fund, be barred from serving as a director, officer, trustee, or in any role with fiduciary duties for any non-profit or charitable organization incorporated, registered, operating, or soliciting donations in New York State, AND TESTIFY FOR THE STATE. I can’t wait for that. LaPierre is expected to testify in his own defense. At trial, the NRA is now trying to blame everything on the individual defendants in order to save the rest of the complicit rats from losing their positions.
The trial may last six weeks. Meanwhile, the corruption continues.

Bombshell: We have also learned of an audio recording of NRA and Ackerman McQueen executives plotting to rip off the NRA. We can hope this ran afoul of the law and criminal prosecutions will follow.
Potential new EVP discussion. But don’t get your cart in front of your horse. The ongoing trial may determine some of this, at least in the near future.
Litigation
The new California law that bans people from carrying firearms in most public places was once again blocked from taking effect last Saturday. A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel had dissolved a temporary hold on a previous court injunction blocking the law. The hold was issued by a different 9th Circuit panel and had allowed the law to go into effect Jan. 1. But last Saturday’s decision keeps in place a Dec. 20 ruling by U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney blocking the law. Judge Carney said that the law violates the Second Amendment and that gun rights groups would likely prevail in proving it unconstitutional. However, my report may be out-of-date when you read it.

Illinois
The Illinois State Police says it won’t pursue charges against Illinois residents who didn’t register their weapons that fall under the new law requiring such by the January 1st deadline, and that the FOID Portal will remain open and people can submit endorsement affidavits at any time. Residents who fail to register weapons as required by law could face felony charges. At last report, only 1.2% of the state’s 2.4 million documented gun owners had complied with the gun registration scheme. But registering them now, after the legal deadline, could prove problematic and might be evidence of a crime. (You may recall when California DOJ “extended” a registration period for some newly designated “assault weapons,” that executive action was overturned in court.)

Jackson
Jackson, Mississippi’s reported homicides were down 14.5% in 2023, and were down 13.7% the year before. But the capital city still has the highest homicide rate in the nation at 78.79 per 100,000. We also note that Memphis (#3) and Washington, D.C. (#10) were both UP by over 30% last year.

About those “assault weapons of war,” also known as repeating firearms. The left often claims that the Founding Fathers couldn’t have meant to include “rapid fire” weapons in the Second Amendment’s protection because they didn’t exist at the time. FALSE.
