Today is Good Friday. Sunday is Easter. Thank you Jesus.
John 14:6.
Patriots Day
- Tomorrow (4/19).
- Sadly, also this week.

Litigation
- Suppressors and the NFA.
- The US Third Circuit Court of Appeals in the case Lara v. Commissioner Pennsylvania State Police upheld a district court injunction against arresting 18-20 year-olds openly carrying during a state of emergency, holding that “18-to-20 year-olds are, like other subsets of the American public, presumptively among ‘the people’ to whom Second Amendment rights extend.” Includes a discussion of the level of scrutiny required or allowed in civil rights cases, as well as who “the people” are. Interestingly, the Third Circuit admitted here that while “We and other courts interpreted that observation [the SCOTUS Heller decision] as endorsing a means-end scrutiny analysis in Second Amendment cases. We turned out to be wrong.” 52-page opinion with dissents.
- Grassroots report. Note that the “CCIA” mentioned in the NY case is that state’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act, an unconstitutional gun control law passed in the wake of the SCOTUS Bruen decision.
Administration
- ATF’s Marvin Richardson follow-up. I had forgotten to mention that forcibly-retired ATF Deputy Director Marvin Richardson was awarded a medal by the Treasury Department for his actions in the 1993 ATF/FBI massacre in Waco, Texas, that left 76 men, women and children dead along with four of Richardson’s gestapo agents.
Enemies
- Anti-gun US Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) has introduced federal gun and magazine ban legislation called the GOSAFE Act, that he says will protect Americans’ constitutional right to own a firearm. Liar.
- We’ve reported on the case of former US Navy Sailor and gun guy Patrick “Tate” Adamiak, whose home ATF raided, found nothing illegal but imprisoned him for 20 years anyway. Now we learn that the feds wanted to tack on an additional 10 years for possession of completely legal parts – parts that remain legal today with zero paperwork or government permission. It seems to becoming clear that this was a kangaroo court in bed with a rogue agency.

- More from the BATmen.
- The UK. We note that possession of every weapon mentioned is protected by the Second Amendment here in the colonies.
- Pretty much all you need to know:
More guns, less crime
NRA
The Only Ones
- A female off-duty Chicago police officer died inside the 18th District police station last week from a suicidal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- Also last week, former Yazoo City (MS) Police Chief James Durwood Winstead, 50, was arrested by Yazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with capital murder in connection to a death reported to the cops as a self-inflicted gunshot. We have further reports that Winstead was arrested by US Marshals and charged with “conspiracy.” Perhaps this was a multi-agency task force in which everyone was sworn in as a deputy US Marshal.
- A Miami Beach Police Officer Shenaqua Stringer shot a fellow officer last month during a scuffle with a man possibly experiencing a mental health crisis. Officer Stringer has not been suspended or arrested and the shot officer is suing the city for negligence in the incident.
- An unidentified Polk County (FL) deputy accidentally shot herself while being attacked by a dog during a loose livestock roundup last weekend.
- Tarrant, AL, city judge Tanilya Lanice Jackson was arrested last Friday morning after pulling out a gun during an argument on city property in front of the municipal court building, which she had just exited. She was charged with possession of a firearm in certain prohibited places.
- Former Ripley County, MO, Sheriff Michael Barton and Chief Deputy Charles Mays have been arrested on felony charges of stealing firearms from the county’s evidence locker.
- A US Marine veteran is preparing to sue the Jacksonville (FL) Sheriff’s Office (JSO) after a controversial incident in which she was shot and her 10-year-old German Shepherd and registered service dog was shot three times by Deputy Milan Jones, who was responding to the victim’s call for service. Judging from this report, I disagree with JSO’s conclusion that the officer acted appropriately, and in fact had the victim then shot Deputy Jones, it appears to me that would have been fully justified, plus she would still have grounds for a lawsuit. She called for help, acted in a peaceable manner, and was attacked with deadly force by a stranger who provoked the dog.
DGUs
- Failure of the victim selection process.
- “The shot fired by the homeowner was UNFORTUNATELY about 8 inches too high, missing the intruder, which would have resulted in his death.” – Sheriff Gary Long, Butts County, GA
- The Armed Citizen:
Not a DGU.
- Gulfport, MS. A church deacon and head of the church’s security was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in a domestic dispute at a church Easter egg hunt event. One witness stated that “He even gave the individual an opportunity to drop the weapon, and he didn’t…” You have to know your tactics and make your decisions ahead of time.
- Another one. We only have one side of this story, but there seems to be more than a little stupidity involved here.
Tactics & Stuff
- Rule 2.
- Bear defense. Our local newsrag quotes some cockamamie group named Bearwise saying if attacked by a black bear, use bear spray and “fight back with anything on hand such as a knife, rock, stick or by kicking.” Uhm, nope. I have a much more effective method.
- The Adams County (MS) Sheriff’s Office is preparing to offer its Home Defense Class, a two-day course that teaches self-defense and provides gun safety and training. June. Free. First 40 applicants. Read more here.
Bobcat vs. Turkey. Video.
Obit
- 106-year-old Vaughn P. Drake Jr., an Army Engineer who was on Oahu during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor has died. Drake was believed to be the oldest known US survivor of the Battle of Pearl Harbor.
Industry News
Products
- Elite 2A Pay is a gun-friendly credit processing company that respects the Second Amendment and firearm industry.
- Palmetto State Armory has the Adamson 12 gauge, five-round, Pump-Action Shotgun marked down to $89.99. I dunno if it’s any good, but it has a limited 4-star customer rating.
- Olight’s Warrior Ultra flashlight puts out 2500 lumens. $140. Also, their new Oclip Ultra is the same size as the Oclip Pro but is tougher and swaps the red light option for an 800 mW UV emitter. $50. Both are made of Olight Aluminum Alloy, called OAL, which is significantly harder and stronger than TA2 Titanium.
- Springfield Armory’s new Kuna (Kuna is the Croatian word for the European Pine Marten) is a ginormous roller-delayed 9mm pistol reminiscent of HK subguns. Starting at $1000. (FWIW, I once employed a US Army Special Forces weapons sergeant who was not keen on the roller-delayed HKs due to unreliability issues when they got sand and grit in them.)
- The Hornady Dehumidifying Rod HD provides nearly double the protection of traditional dehumidifying rods by using heat-dispersing fins to maximize heat transfer without taking additional storage space or causing damage to nearby surfaces. 18″ for up to 200 cubic feet and 36″ for up to 500 cubic feet. Just the thing down here where you need gills to breathe.
- Heritage Manufacturing is now offering its Badlander side-by-side double barrel, double trigger “coach” style shotgun with a nickel plated finish.

“Criminals don’t use guns they buy from a sporting goods store. Criminals get firearms by stealing them from people.” – Mesa County, AZ, Sheriff Todd Rowell
“There’s no legitimate use for a gun like this.” – Chicago Police Superintendent Philip Cline, brandishing a 9mm semiautomatic handgun at a news conference (Chicago Tribune, “Special unit hauling in guns, drugs” by Glenn Jeffers, January 29, 2004). Look in your holster, Barney.
