Safe with “The Only Ones”?

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. blames S&W M&P pistols for a rise in negligent shootings by deputies, who were trained to violate the rules and can’t keep their booger hooks off their bang switches.

If you were taught, and learned, to keep your foot on the gas pedal, would you blame GM if your car moved?

Veteran off-duty Neptune (NJ) Township Police Department Sergeant Phillip Seidle, 51, shot and killed his recently divorced ex-wife in Ashbury Park, NJ, after chasing her down as she drove a car with their 7-year-old daughter inside. Seidle was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The child was uninjured.

A federal jury recently convicted former Sacramento (CA) County sheriff’s deputy Ryan McGowan of dealing firearms without a license and conspiracy to make a false statement in federal firearms records. The US Attorney’s Office said the 33-year-old former deputy from Elk Grove was selling guns that can be obtained by law enforcement officers but are not on California’s list of handguns approved for sale to the general public.

Some folks are expressing surprise at the news that Ronald Reagan carried a .38 revolver in his briefcase while he was president. (Well, wouldn’t you?) I don’t recall ever noticing Mr. Reagan carrying a briefcase. We also hear that the news surprised and impressed Reagan’s VP, George H.W. Bush. It doesn’t surprise me that it surprised Bush, as he is no friend to gun owners and didn’t carry. (Reagan also used a revolver to thwart an assault in 1933.)
