A private organization operating a public park in Tennessee can’t stop licensed handgun permit holders from carrying their weapons into an event, according to a new opinion from the Tennessee attorney general.

ATF “grenade” ban

We have a report that the ATF is in the process of banning parachute flares and chalk practice rounds for 40mm grenade launchers, previously classified by the ATF as non-explosives. Apparently because the 40mm rounds in question are not “small arms” ammunition, the ATF can classify them as “low explosives” having no explosive properties whatsoever. This is also, of course, applicable to any ammunition with a diameter larger than 1/2″. So owners of firearms registered as a “destructive device” may soon have the ATF classifying every round of ammo as a dangerous explosive to be confiscated.

L.A. magazine ban

Los Angeles has banned possession of firearm magazines of over 10 rounds capacity, apparently in violation of state preemption law. Sale, shipment, etc. was already prohibited under state law.

State Dept. speech ban

US Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Charles Grassley (R-IA), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry requesting details about the State Department’s proposed changes to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The proposed regulations, as written, may require law-abiding citizens to procure “proper authorization” from the government before publicly speaking about firearms and other materials.
