Litigation
The US Third Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled en banc 8-7 that some people who had non-violent misdemeanors and/or felonies could get their Second Amendment rights restored.
Enemies
“Yes. Security is up [at her shows]. I’m really trying to protect myself. I am not being an idiot.” — gun-banning comedian Amy Schumer, on having her guns while trying to get rid of yours. Schumer says she’ll move to Spain if Donald Trump becomes president. I’ll buy her one-way ticket if it comes with a permanent guarantee, no matter who is elected.
We have a report that cosmetic company L’Oréal cancelled a modeling contract with Axelle Despiegelaere, a pretty Belgian teen, after the company learned that she had been oryx hunting.
SEC football:
University of Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said he does not allow players on his football team to own a handgun.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said he opposed his players owning handguns, but did not say whether his opposition reflects actual policy.
The coaches at Texas A&M (Kevin Sumlin), Vanderbilt (Derek Mason), and Mississippi State (Dan Mullen) also said their team policies “[restrict]…players from having handguns or ‘weapons’ as a part of being a member of the football program.”
We are not talking about them banning guns on campus or at football functions. They are attempting to remote-ban legally owned firearms back home. I suppose next they will be telling players they can’t go to church off campus on their own time.
I am now for the first time extremely ashamed to be an MSU graduate. No more SEC for me. And the next time MSU calls begging for money, they’re gonna get an earful. When I was there, people rode around campus with guns in their truck windows. And no one got shot.
These “coaches” are not mentors. They should be deported to North Korea, where they will undoubtedly feel more at home in a society with whose rules they agree.

Victim-rich environments
There was a bank robbery in Ridgeland, MS this week, committed by a man with a gun. Clearly posted on the Origin Bank door was one of those “no guns” signs. So how well did the sign work? Who was (presumably) unarmed, and who wasn’t? Maybe they need a bigger sign? Or maybe a bigger brain.
The Only Ones
We have a report that US Department of Homeland Security personnel lost at least 165 firearms and 1,300 badges and credentials between October 2012 and April 2015.

In Alpine, Texas this week, an unidentified US Homeland Security officer responding to a school shooting was shot in the leg by an unidentified deputy US Marshal who “accidentally” fired his gun.
Bay St. Louis, Mississippi Police Chief Mike DeNardo fatally shot himself in the chest this week at the PD parking lot while being investigated by the local sheriff’s office for a personnel issue and moments after being placed under suspension by the city.
Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza, president of the National Border Patrol Council’s Local 2455 labor union, appeared on Fox News Channel recently and said, “Eight out of ten people that are caught entering our country illegally are not deported and are allowed to stay in the United States.”

The Central MS Friends of NRA banquet happens Sept. 22, 2016 at the MS Trade Mart at the state fairgrounds in Jackson. I think it usually starts around 6:00. Tickets are $40 single and $75 couple. There is also a pre-event drawing for your choice from a group of firearms. Those tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. I have some of the drawing tickets if you want to get them now.
The Wahabi Shriners’ 13th Annual Sportsman’s BBQ and Gun Giveaway will be Sept. 24, 2016, beginning at 10:00. Lunch at 11:00. Drawing starts at 1:00. A ticket gets you a chance at your choice from 100 guns. If you win, your ticket goes back in the hat for the rest of the drawings, so theoretically you could win all 100 guns. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are $20 each, or buy a 3-pack for $60 and receive a bonus ticket for a chance at one of 20 guns (no admission or lunch included with the bonus ticket). I have some of these tickets too.
Industry news
Two former executives of Forjas Taurus SA have been charged with (but not convicted of) arms trafficking by the Brazilian government. The executives, Eduardo Pezzuol and Leonardo Sperry, allegedly negotiated deals to ship 8,000 handguns to Fares Mohammed Hassan Mana’a, a Yemeni arms trafficker active in Africa. The two executives left Taurus in 2015 after the Brazilian government discovered negotiations to ship an additional 11,000 guns to Mana’a, and raided the company’s headquarters. Government officials said that emails they found there confirm that the pair knew of UN sanctions against dealing with Mana’a, but worked to find ways around them. Whether the two left Taurus of their own accord or were fired was not reported.

- The civilian variant of the Canadian Rangers’ new C-19 bolt action rifle is the Tikka “Arctic.” The C-19 is produced by Colt Canada. The Arctic will be chambered in .308/7.62 caliber, have a bright orange (rather than red) laminated stock coloration to the stock, and apparently is based on the newly-released T3x line of improved rifles; the Arctic has an enlarged ejection port, reinforced scope mount, and steel bolt shroud, and improved softer recoil pad. Canadian retail is listed at about CA$2,700 (about $2,100 US). It should be available in Canada next month, but no word yet on US availability.
