Snopes lies about guns

Litigation
The Missouri Court of Appeals has ruled that it is not a criminal offense for CCW holders to carry a firearm into an airport or through airport security, though one can be asked to leave, possibly subject to a fine. Only a fine (presumably for trespassing) — not arrested and charged for unlawful use of a weapon. CCW holders only.
The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that public schools can ban guns from their premises because schools are “broadly empowered” by lawmakers to adopt policies that “keep students safe.” It found that bans by the Ann Arbor and Clio school districts are not in conflict with a state preemption law that prohibits local governments from regulating gun possession, saying that “School districts are not formed, organized or operated by cities, villages, townships or counties, but exist independently of those bodies.” In question was lawful carrying by parents and other adults licensed by the state to do so.
Legislation
On Jan. 1, Missouri will become the 11th state to allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense without a government-issued permit, also known as “constitutional carry.” While the new law will allow carrying a concealed weapon by people age 21 and over without a permit, there will still be restrictions regarding where guns are allowed and where they’re not.
More criminals set free
Not-soon-enough-to-be-ex-President Barack Obama commuted the sentences of dozens of firearm offenders among 231 pardons and commutations this week in a day with the most acts of clemency in a single day by any president in American history, breaking his own record of 214 last August. Mr. Obama has now commuted the sentences of 1,176 federal criminals, including 395 life sentences, for mostly drug-related crooks who were somehow overpunished or who had “paid their debt to society.” Folks like the crack dealer released by Obama who killed two kids, ages 7 and 10, to prevent them from testifying against him in the murder of their mother. While Mr. Obama shills in favor of more gun laws, he’s releasing criminals convicted of breaking the “insufficient” laws we already have.
Mr. Obama plans more of the same before he leaves office. In fact, we also have a report that he plans to transfer up to 18 more inmates, presumably terrorist suspects, out of Guantanamo Bay before the end of his presidency.
He leaves office. He leaves office…. Just keep saying that.

Friends and Enemies
A new gun control group called The Betsy Riot has been sending “Christmas cards” to pro-gun leaders with graphic photos of folks who failed suicide attempts by firearm, blaming the NRA and the pro-gun recipients for the carnage, and claiming that Jesus is on their side. Sending such threats through the US mail is a federal crime.

The National Coalition to Ban Handguns (NCBH, now called the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, or CSGV) was a creation of the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church in 1974. NCBH’s national office was/is in the Methodist Board’s Washington building and the Methodist Board was NCBH’s official fiscal agent until 1976 when gun lobby complaints to the IRS threatened the church’s tax-exempt status. The Methodist gun banners specifically oppose the “insurrectionist” NRA, semiauto rifle sales, and “stand your ground” laws, among other things.
Meanwhile, the Presbyterian Church (USA) says that handguns should be banned because a victim may not take an attacker’s life under any circumstance, even if the victim knows that his/her murder is imminent.
And then there’s this, The Coalition to Stop Vilifying Guns, or CSVG.

Presidential security
President-elect Donald Trump is expected to keep at least part of his private security team after he becomes president. Such an action will be unprecedented, since no president has ever before maintained a private security force while in office, or even after Election Day. It will be interesting to see how the legality of their presence will be explained, and how they will interact with and get through Secret Service checkpoints. But then again, the SS seems to be unable to keep a lot of random people out of the White House, which may be why Trump wants his own proven team.
The Only Ones
In mid-December, drunken off-duty Deputy US Marshal Charles Brown, 30, who lives with his father, became irate over allegedly slow service at a Brooklyn, NY, McDonald’s restaurant and allegedly pulled out his loaded service weapon and pointed it at an employee before wheeling around and training his gun on terrified customers. Charlie Brown was arrested on charges including menacing, harassment and violating firearm license regulations. At his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court, a judge issued him a piece of paper ordering him to stay away from that McDonald’s and that employee, and then released him without bail.
We reported last month about a then-unidentified Bay County, Michigan, Sheriff’s deputy and school resource officer who fired his backup pistol while inside a school room by himself, striking a teacher in the next room in the neck.
We now learn that Deputy Adam J. Brown and another teacher had been in the robotics classroom using a force machine to test the trigger pull on Brown’s Springfield EMP 9mm handgun. Later, Brown returned alone and used the force machine with his Sig Sauer .380, at which time it apparently fired. Both guns were Brown’s authorized backup weapons.
But it gets better (or worse). For an hour and a half after firing the gun, Brown acted like he knew nothing about it, and when presented with the offending bullet, he attempted to get rid of the evidence by throwing it away out in a corner of the school yard, where a Michigan State Police K9 later found it. No charges have been filed.
Federal authorities have charged retired Briarcliff Manor, New York, police officer Nicholas Tartaglione, 49, with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and for the gangland-style, quadruple homicide murders of four men in a bar in Chester, NY, during a botched cocaine deal. The victims have been missing since mid April. The bodies were found this week on Tartaglione’s property.
We also know that the gunman who fatally shot the Russian ambassador to Turkey and injured three others this week in an Islamic jihadist attack at an art gallery in the Turkish capital of Ankara was an off-duty police officer who worked in the Turkish capital, reportedly in a protective detail and/or the riot police, who used his police ID card to enter the building before the shooting. Just because Turkey is a NATO ally doesn’t mean to me that we have to defend it against a justified retaliation by Russia.

Amen. An employer who says different is guilty of accessory to attempted murder and should be arrested, tried, convicted, and sent to prison for it.
