Litigation, Rusty Gun, Only Ones

Litigation

A 3-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has issued a permanent injunction against enforcement of such a requirement in Washington, D.C. The majority opinion, written by Judge Thomas Beall Griffith, said “At the Second Amendment’s core lies the right of responsible citizens to carry firearms for personal self-defense beyond the home, subject to longstanding restrictions…The District’s good-reason law is necessarily a total ban on exercises of that constitutional right for most D.C. residents. That’s enough to sink this law under (the 2008 U.S. Supreme Court’s Heller ruling).”

Note that a “total ban” is well beyond the limits of an unconstitutional “infringement.”

This may be appealed to a full en banc hearing, and to SCOTUS.

Country artist Jamey Johnson’s July 23 concert at House of Blues, Myrtle Beach, was cancelled after he apparently refused to disarm while in the venue. Attaboy. Johnson is a USMC veteran. Meanwhile head Demanding Mommy Shannon Watts said that Johnson would have been a lethal threat to his fans.

The Only Ones

The St. Louis Police Dept. is trying to figure out how to keep its officers from accidentally shooting each other, but apparantly not so much how to keep from accidentally shooting anyone else.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has collected the names of about 300 deputies who have a history of past misconduct — such as domestic violence, theft, bribery and brutality — that could damage their credibility if they testify in court. Departments in at least a dozen counties, such as San Francisco and Sacramento, regularly send prosecutors the names of problem officers. But apparently none of these agencies intend to dismiss any “problem officers.”

An unidentified US Secret Service accidentally shot himself while on duty this week and was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The “special officer” is assigned to the Washington field office. The incident has been referred to the Office of Professional Responsibility for further review.

Two unidentified Southaven, MS, police officers fatally shot a resident at a home where they were attempting to serve a warrant for a suspect. But apparently the officers were at the wrong house and the dead man wasn’t wanted for anything. The correct address was apparently across the street. Stories vary on exactly what transpired, but we do know that the names of the victim and the suspect have been relased and the officers’ names have not.

You know how mouth-watering it is when you smell steaks cooking on a grill? I wonder if vegetarians experience the same effects when they smell me cutting my grass…
