MS Elections
This Tuesday, June 5th is Mississippi’s Primary Election Day for US Senate and US House of Representatives.
There are two elections for the US Senate in Mississippi in 2018. The first is the regularly scheduled election on November 6, 2018, to fill the state’s Class I seat held by Sen. Roger Wicker (R). The Democratic and Republican primaries for that election are June 5, 2018. The second, a nonpartisan special election on November 6, 2018, will fill the Class II seat left vacant by Sen. Thad Cochran (R) and currently temporarily filled by gubernatorial appointee Cindy Hyde-Smith (R). The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Cochran’s term until January 3, 2021.
Oklahoma City Update
Turns out there was not just one, but TWO armed citizens who intervened and fatally shot the man who opened fire in an Oklahoma City restaurant last week. One was a Master Sergeant in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, while the other was a security guard, apparently not working at that location. The attacker also was employed as a security guard. One commenter noted, “It’s interesting that the two armed good guys seem to have had no problem not shooting each other.”
Florida Update
It turns out that the perpetrator who “allegedly” committed the massacre at the Parkland, FL school had just prior to the attack posted a video online in which he said, “When you see me on the news you’ll know who I am.”
This is why we don’t name the publicity-seeking murdering freaks here. At that point, we don’t know or care who they are.
Litigation
Heller 10th Anniversary Update
This week the US Supreme Court ruled that police officers must have a warrant to search a vehicle parked on private property. The Hill reported that in an 8-1 ruling, the court reversed a Virginia Supreme Court decision that found the US Supreme Court’s “automobile exception” to the Fourth Amendment allows for warrantless searches of vehicles anytime, anywhere, including at a home or on its surrounding property (curtilage). In 2013, the SCOTUS ruled that police need a warrant to search a private home, but that automobiles are exempt from the warrant requirement “if a crime is suspected.”
However, search as we may, we cannot find any such “automobile exception” in the Fourth Amendment, which was written before automobiles were invented.
(“Amendment IV — The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”)
The US District Court for the Western District of Virginia has ruled that “Plaintiff’s claims share a common question: whether there is constitutional duty under the Fourteenth Amendment for the police to intervene to protect a citizen from criminal conduct by third parties. Because I find this duty is not ‘clearly established,’ his claims are barred by qualified immunity.” (Qualified immunity shields government officials in certain instances from being sued over incidents that occur while they are acting within their official capacities.) YOYO.
Law. Just so you know.

Go ARMED
If you’re going armed, be sure you’re actually armed.
DGUs
This week in Liege, Belgium a knife-wielding man, reported to be an Islamic terrorist recently released from prison, shouting “Allahu akbar” or somesuch, attacked two uniformed female police officers. After stabbing both, he took one’s pistol and shot both of them, and then shot a man sitting in a nearby car. All 3 died. The terrorist then walked to a school in the vicinity, took a woman hostage, and was subsequently shot to death by responding police. The woman hostage was apparently unharmed. Y’all need to shoot earlier. Or maybe just require murderers to grind off their knife points (see “idiocy” below).
In rural Choctaw County, MS, a teen used a gun to defend himself from his uncle, who came at him with a hatchet at the teen’s home.
Enemies
The Sierra Club even hates Medal-of-Honor-recipient war heroes.
It turns out that gun-banning former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg is paying Florida teen gun-ban activist David Hogg, in appreciation for Hogg’s anti-NRA demonstrations.
It seems every “politically correct” cause has a color, and at least one apparently thinks it owns all colors. Now we hear that the gun ban crowd’s co-opted color is orange. The funny thing is, the law in our state, as in most states, literally requires me to wear orange in order to legally commit certain types of “gun violence.”
Department of Idiocy
Illinois State Representative Fred Crespo (D) says he supports legislation to “prohibit the sale and possession of high capacity magazines which turn regular firearms into fully automatic weapons.” Really.
In the UK, Judge Nic Madge is calling for 10″ pointed kitchen knives to be ground down to a rounded end after hearing three serious stabbing cases in last three months. Because this is the Department of Idiocy.
Stockton, CA, Mayor Michael Tubbs (D) is proposing issuing a check of up to $1,000/month to residents identified as “most likely to shoot somebody” under a program called “Advance Peace.” In other words, pay protection money (your money) to criminals to not shoot people.
(This is not by an idiot, but for idiots.) Rankin County, MS, Sheriff Bryan Bailey (R) issued this warning on his Facebook page this week: “Warning: If you have recently purchased meth in the metro area, it may be contaminated with the Zika virus. Please bring it to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office and we will test it for free. If you’re not comfortable coming into our office, please contact us and we’ll test your meth in the privacy of your home.”
The Only Ones
Stagecoach, TX police officer Robert Lee was arrested last weekend for the shooting death of his brother, Harris County, TX Deputy Rocky Lee, during what may have been a welfare check.
Burlington, Iowa, police officer Jesse Hill claimed that a dog bite caused him to fire his weapon twice, accidentally killing a woman in 2015. But video shows otherwise.
An unidentified Flint, MI, police officer has been charged with a misdemeanor count of careless discharge of a firearm causing damage to property over $50, after he fired his sidearm into the gym floor during an elementary, middle and high school wrestling tournament at a high school, causing the panicked crowd to stampede. The anonymous officer faces up to a year in jail or a $500 fine if convicted.
Unofficial Report on NRA’s CarryGuard Insurance Debacle
Because there is no official report.
Gun Stickers Draw Thieves?
Maybe the NRA stickers should include the statement, “No guns left in this vehicle.” One commenter noted that “It’s curious this story doesn’t even attempt to cite an instance where a gun has actually been stolen from a car with such a decal.”
Road Rash
You can’t make this up.
