Rep. Bounds
Passed into law. Effective July 1.
Clarifies that LEOs under state law or retired LEOs under federal law may be members of an armed church security program, and are eligible for the civil immunity provided under the law.

Did you notice how quickly New Zealand banned lots of guns after the Christchurch massacre, taking away guns from people who didn’t do it? That is why here we have the Second Amendment.
Election
We have reports of a crooked candidate, Thomas Dale Beavers II, running for justice court judge in Forrest County, MS. We already have too many crooked judges. Mississippi judicial races are by law nonpartisan. Beavers has run for other offices as a Republican and an Independent.
Democrat US presidential hopeful Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke wants to ban sales of semiautomatic rifles, calling the typical 5.56 AR rifle a “super powerful” weapon. O’Rourke, as a young member of the computer hacking group Cult of the Dead Cow, also once wrote an online article about how society could work without money and fantasized about killing children, with “sweet visions filling my head” after running over a couple of “happy happy” kids.

Legislation
US Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said he plans to introduce a constitutional amendment to limit the US Supreme Court to nine justices, in response to the suggestion by some Democrats to expand the number of seats on the high court. Congress’ Judiciary Act of 1869 established that the US Supreme Court would consist of the Chief Justice and eight associate justices. Rubio’s proposal, if adopted, would make that a Constitutional provision, rather than a statutory one.
This is not a new idea. The Judicial Procedures Reform Bill of 1937 was proposed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (one of our worst presidents) to grant the President power to appoint an additional Justice to the Supreme Court, up to a maximum of six, for every member of the Court over the age of 70 years and 6 months. Roosevelt wanted this in order to obtain a majority to rule in favor of his New Deal legislation that the court had ruled unconstitutional.
Dept. of Ignorance
Last week, a group of high school students from the District of Columbia and suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia left their classrooms (some excused and some not) and headed to the US Capitol to protest gun violence [sic], and to demand federal legislation requiring universal background checks for firearm sales. “We are here today because we have to be, because we have been failed by every institution that didn’t protect us,” said Dani Miller, co-president of the Maryland group MoCo Students for Change, which organized the demonstration.
Apparently Miss Miller doesn’t understand:
- There is generally no right to be protected by a school, congress or other “institution,” if you’re not in their custody (which may apply to minor children in school).
- There is a right and responsibility to look out for yourself.
- Almost every rapid mass murderer in recent history cleared a background check to purchase firearms, with a few stealing them from a relative who had. Thinking such a measure would protect you is the equivalent of sticking your head in the sand.

BBC “News” is claiming that US guns are causing all the violence in Mexico. Maybe they ought to talk to Eric Holder about that. At least one report indicates that five of the six most violent cities in the world are in Mexico.
MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi said this week that “nobody in America has suggested banning any guns.” What a steaming pile of bovine excrement, straight from the bovine’s south end.

Police in New Jersey have now started arresting people under a state law criminalizing “ghost guns” (guns built at home with no records, usually from “80%” receivers/frames, which is otherwise legal under federal law for non-prohibited persons).If these guns are untraceable as claimed by the left, then how are they finding them to make the arrests? Also, I don’t see an exception in the Second Amendment for home-built guns.

British Member of Parliament Scott Mann (Tory party) is calling for strict new knife control measures including for every blade sold in the UK to be equipped with a GPS tracking system and for a “national database” of people who own knives, “like we do with guns.”

Enemies
Jeremy Stein, Executive Director of the group Connecticut Against Gun Violence, was escorted from a legislative gun-control hearing last week after reportedly using a police officer to circumvent security measures and bring in a firearm receiver. This was the same hearing from which another anti-gunner was ejected after texting that she wanted to kill NRA members and a state senator.
Just guessing, but I bet pro-gun folks would have been arrested for such acts.

Celina (OH) City Schools suspended a student due to his use of a Nerf gun in a pre-approved school history project regarding veterans’ sacrifices. Then the school district refused veteran’s attempt to make a statement at the board meeting. Heil Hitler, I suppose.

Almost every gun in existence was developed as or from a weapon of war, as was almost all communication equipment, nautical technology, most cold weather gear, all our nonperishable foods, duct tape, drones, weather radar, digital cameras, penicillin, synthetic rubber, Jeeps, superglue, epi-pens, sanitary napkins, night vision goggles, aviator sunglasses, the space program, and countless other everyday items.
Careful what you shoot at
A Dallas-area homeowner who was shooting at a car burglar fired repeatedly at the suspect, and one shot ricocheted off the ground, went through a second-floor window of a nearby home and wounded a teenager inside.
The Only Ones
Rookie Indiana State Police Trooper Daniel Organ fatally shot a man working on his daughter’s SUV. No indictment.
Baltimore County (MD) police arrested an off-duty Maryland State Police Trooper Zachary Tyler Bowen, 28, for allegedly pointing a gun at another driver in a road rage incident. Bowen is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and the use of a firearm in a felony crime, and was suspended without pay.
Gregory Robinson, a former Summit, MS, police officer, has been arrested and charged with the murder of an acquaintance after Pike County deputies found the body, shot in the head, in the back of Robinson’s truck.

Dog attack
A 12-year-old Montgomery County (MS) boy is in critical but stable condition in a medically induced coma at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after he was attacked by six dogs while riding his bike. When I was a kid, I kept an ax handle or similar tool on my bike all the time for just such a problem.
Wolves
US Wildlife officials are expected to remove the protections placed over the gray wolf across the Lower 48 states. This will open the door for states to decide if they may be hunted. We don’t know why the feds think they have authority over wolves in the first place — I don’t see that power in the Constitution.

We have a report that a former Iraqi Navy SEAL interpreter who worked with Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle just got his US citizenship, and said this about Trump’s immigration policies:
“If you follow the legal procedure, this country will welcome you and they will love you.”

Hudson Manufacturing, makers of the much-vaunted Hudson H9, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy (assets to be sold to satisfy creditors). In other news, grabagun.com had Hudson pistols for $599 (original price was around $1100). When sales spiked at that price, it was raised to $799.

Federal says its new .410 TSS turkey load is effective on gobblers at 50 yards. That load features 13/16 oz. of Tungsten alloy (18 gm/cc) #9 shot at 1100 fps in a 3″ shell. It appears that Browning Ammunition has the same load. I’d still stick with a 20 gauge or larger, except when using a particular gun for nostalgia reasons.
